I peep out to hunt for the truant biker

honking incessantly to cross my path,

over the dull roar of my auto-rickshaw;

at dusk, on a rain drenched road.

My eyes find his girlfriend’s;-

perched snugly behind, in a wind-sheeter.

And as we find each other

in a light drizzle shining against streetlights,

we break into a sudden smile.

Winking at our private joke

like long lost friends, found again

Until the green light takes us apart.

Each on our own journeys

lost again in Metropolitan Mumbai.
