It was a clear night.
The clouds had howled all night
shed their tears, and gone.
She looked out the window
at the twinkling city afar.
No more haze or halo –
her eyes were spent, and dry.
Her muddled thoughts had ceased.
Her thumping heart was quiet.
Is this how it would be…
all still and cold…for eternity?
She watched, as the black night
turned cobalt and then pink.
The clouds had come back –
cottony orange at daybreak.
A new dawn had blossomed.
Perhaps there was still hope
for springtime and new life.
Some moments last forever
yet a lifetime is not eternity…
For nothing lasts forever
and we must move on in peace.
